THE TRUE DEATH TOLL OF COVID-19

COVID-19 deaths are a key indicator to track the evolution of the pandemic. On 30th January 2020 COVID-19 was declared a public emergency of international concern with an official death toll of 171.By 31st December 2020, this figure stood at 1,813,188. The estimates suggest the total number of global deaths attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 is at least 3 million, representing 1.2 million more deaths than officially reported. Since 29th June 2020, the mortality rate was highest among those aged over 80 years.

Look at cumulative deaths from COVID -19 by world region reveals several striking facts that might go against people’s impression of the state of the pandemic. Corona virus deaths have been rising consistently throughout 2021 and death counts have not been recently slowed down. The death toll accelerated towards the end of 2020 and has kept up its trajectory.

Before COVID the mortality rate was very low in the world compared to the recent statistics.

Different social media platforms shared the mortality rate on twitter while content creators shared some videos on you tube about the rate at which people are losing their lives. The Ministry of Health in Kenya who’s cabinet secretary is Mutahi Kagwe announced everyday the people infected, those who have died and those I quarantine every day in the Television. This was done so that citizens can be aware of the virus and be more cautious

To significantly reduce the number of deaths and the number of people affected and substantially decrease the direct economic losses relative to global gross domestic products caused by disasters,including water related disasters with a focus on protecting the poor and the people in vulnerable situations.
