We are in the midst of an unprecedented global crisis affecting our lives, our livelihoods, and social and cultural activities, COVID-19 is impacting our movable, immovable and intangible cultural heritage and it will continue to do so if the virus will not come to an end. Before COVID everything was going on well. Communities all over the world were carrying out their activities like circumcision, weddings ceremonies among others very well without any restrictions.
Tourism sector came to a standstill because most countries closed their airlines and there was a total locked down in some countries too. This affected tourism sector since there were no tourist traveling in and out of different countries in the world.
New media in this case has promoted worlds cultural heritage and natural heritage whereby people on various social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and also content creators on YouTube share videos and photos of the places they have visited hence making others to be more interested on such places and hence visiting the place.
Other communities also share their cultural activities on YouTube hence making other communities understand how other communities do their activities on several occasions. Like marriages and even circumcision ceremonies.
The famous Mwaniki Wamgeria who is a tv personality with shows like Get in The Kitchen and Foods of Kenya has promoted culture through Tv station to show how different communities cook their foods. You can watch the video through this shared link.
The government also should set some amount of money aside so as to protect and preserve all the cultural and natural heritage so as to fund them incase of any crisis.
